During our Topic this week we have been reading ‘Odysseus’ and learning about his adventures. We wrote our own class poem using expanded noun phrases and alliteration. As well as this, we have been learning about plants and the different names for parts of a plant.
We have been finishing off measurement. We looked at weight and volume this week and measured different things! As well as this, we have been using addition and subtraction to work out number and word problems.
In maths this week we have finished our topic of shape, looking at the properties of 3D shapes. We have also completed our end of year maths assessments.
This week we have used our plans to complete our explanation task, making sure we used subordinating conjunctions in our writing. We have also been introduced to our new text, ‘The Adventures of Odysseus’ and started to make predictions on the story.
On Wednesday, we celebrated ‘French Day’ by exploring the work of French artist, Georges Seurat. We recreated his famous painting, ‘La Grande Jatte’ using the same technique that he did.
This week we have been learning more about how the Ancient Greeks lived. We researched about Greek food, clothes, homes and childhood. We then worked in small groups to create posters all about what we had found out. We have started to look at explanation texts and plan our own texts too.
In maths this week we have been learning about angles, rotating shapes and creating 3D shapes from nets.
We Sing, You Sing
The children have been working hard to learn their songs and we are all really looking forward to the performance on Monday 24th June.
This week we have looked at forces and friction and completed an investigation into the impact of different materials. We have also started our new text, ‘The Tin Forest’ and described the different characters and settings using expanded noun phrases.
This week we have been looking at our new topic of time, which included: days, months, hours, minutes and seconds.
